How was the Vietnam war stopped?

enlightenment :

While the major force to defeat the U.S. was the Vietnamese resistance struggle itself, the American antiwar movement–one of the most successful in history–played a major role in ending the war.

The Vietnam War was not stopped by any single protest, but by eight years of actions taken by students, workers and soldiers–which eventually made the warmakers afraid, in the words of author Fred Halstead, of “losing more than the war.”
why don’t you try ansering the question stooge?

did you have a question in there?

I always assumed that the war was stopped when the North defeated the South.

If you want to post a rant, get a blog. Flagged for not being a question.

So, what is your real question? The war stopped when the North Vietnamese over ran the south and completed their conquest. Try reading a little history. I know you didn’t live through it. Then go rant somewhere else.

USA lost, that is about it. They decide to give up because John Lennon said so.

The primary reason the war was stopped was the DRAFT! No amount of propoganda could make people support a war that was sending their children back in body bags in scores daily.

There was no support for it politically after LBJ completely destroyed his political legacy by cranking up the war (does that sound familiar — someone destroying their political legacy by starting a bogus war for political gain?). The only question was who would have to take the stinkbomb out to the trash and how would they avoid being labeled as the one who “lost Vietnam” by the opposition.

Some things never change.

Secret negotiations between Ho Chi Minh and Jane Fonda. Actually, once we discovered no weapons of mass destruction there, we abandoned the effort.
